What changes with CAU?

On 30/12/2010, the creation of CAU (Council of Architecture and Urbanism) was approved. Now, brasilian architects will have their own coucil, separeted from CREA (architects and engenieers)
But what will change in the professional lives of architects after being disconnected from the old system?

    1. All architects who want to legally carry out the profession, must be logged in CAU (mandatory, not optional to continue with CREA).

    2.
CAU will be able to monitor all stages of practice, unlike Crea which monitors only the execution of the work. It is intended to combat the illegal practice of architecture in a broader way.

     3.
The transition from CREA to the CAU is scheduled for up to one year and then elections will be held to define presidents and directors, and there will be a unit in each brasilian state.

    4.
The annual fee is expected to be R$ 350.00. Despite being more expensive than the CREA (R$ 230.00).

5. The ART fee is going to be R$ 60.00 (CREA´s varies with the value of the service). The name will also change, and will be called RRT (Registration of Technical Responsibility).

6. All registered architect in the CAU will be obliged to vote in Council elections (in Crea, voting was optional)

7. Copy projects will be crime under the law: copyright gained prominence.

That's it! Let's hope and expect to succeed, and that the CAU can be structured  satisfactorily (as CREA is already a long time with this role, the newcomer council will have much work to do ...) Good luck Everyone!

Ps: More questions and details can be clarified in the CAU Web site: (in portuguese) http://www.cau.org.br
